Finishing Strong!

December 18, 2020

By the time you read this, most of your school and university community will have left campus or signed off zoom for the day—you made it!!! It is time to celebrate the end of 2020. You finished 2020 just like you started – strong! You planned, pivoted in March, then planned some more in the spring, pivoted again in September, and managed in-person, hybrid, and remote work and learning like the professionals you are!

Like all of you, PAISBOA planned and pivoted more than a few times right along with you, and like you, we started the year strong with many opportunities for our members to gather in person for networking and professional development. By mid-March, we were all working from home and reimagining how our members could network and participate in the professional development they needed to guide their communities into the “new normal.” In addition to meeting the COVID Crisis head on with the Resource Page, we modified our Signature Events to deliver all of the experiences and services you expect from PAISBOA and more.

As we wrap up 2020 at PAISBOA, we are examining what has changed for the better, what still needs some attention, and what should be recognized as a job well done!

What has changed for the better?

Improved Engagement

The Monday Morning Coffee Breaks, which morphed into Monday Lunch with PAISBOA, has proven to be one of the more important changes we made to our programming lineup. This weekly gathering has been a refuge for members who have found it an excellent resource and reality check. As I have said many times, we will have our Monday gatherings until you tell us to stop! We so appreciate our many guest speakers, our core group of stalwart attendees who keep the conversation lively, and those of you who pop in occasionally with a question that everyone wants to know about.

What needs some attention?

Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Work to Commence at PAISBOA

The PAISBOA Board of Directors is creating a DEI Work Group to intentionally study how PAISBOA can continue to support the DEI efforts of our member schools and universities. Look for updates throughout 2021 from the Board of Directors.

What should be recognized as a job well done?

  • The PAISBOA Business Insurance Group successfully completed the RFP for a new broker partner, and transitioned Bolton and Company to the broker of record in anticipation of the 2/1/2021 renewal. Kudos to Rob Marcantuono and the Business Insurance Group Steering Committee, Rachel Tilney, Consortia Manager, GH Insurance Advisors, and Team Bolton for an excellent outcome and successful PAISBOA Business Insurance Group Annual Meeting.
  • PAISBOA Annual Data Survey launched on time and was completed by the usual core group of business officers so that results were meaningful and returned in time for budget season. Kudos to Tom Devine and the Survey Gurus; Sara Evans, Project Manager; Holly Maki from Dynamic Benchmarking; and all the business officers who managed to complete the survey in addition to everything else they had on their plate this fall.
  • PAISBOA Friday Flyer, Members Update, and COVID Resources were more robust than ever and provided timely, relevant, curated information on a wide variety of subject matter, weekly, to all members. Kudos to all of our PAISBOA Preferred Vendors and Corporate Partners who provided content, and Ron Hill, Operations and Communications Manager.
  • The PAISBOA Flock for sticking together and subscribing to the mantra of one for all and all for one - Kudos to all the members who lived the core values of PAISBOA - integrity, transparency, and loyalty - and helped and supported each other with every Monday Coffee Break conversation, e-list post, survey completed, webinar attended, and resource shared.

You finished strong, and now it’s time to take a short break for the winter holidays. On behalf of Rachel, Ron, and Sara, we hope that your celebrations with family and friends bring you peace and joy. See you in the new year!

Take Advantage of the Power of the Flock...
