PAISBOA: One for All, All for One!

April 10, 2020

Please join me in welcoming the newest members of the flock:

Immaculata University, Immaculata PA (Chester County) – Bruce Friedman

St. Edmund’s Academy, Pittsburgh PA (Squirrel Hill Neighborhood) – Diana McAllister

Membership in PAISBOA has always been a one for all, all for one proposition! Our mission is clear: to stimulate and sustain a passion for providing services, opportunities, and expanded knowledge to empower Business Officers to excel. Our Core Values – integrity, transparency, loyalty — are qualities you know you can expect from us, and qualities we will expect from you as members, PPVs, and corporate sponsors! PAISBOA’s Value Proposition – comprised primarily of a volunteer team of Business Officers working for the common good of all members – is to create savings in both time and money while providing useful resources and expanded knowledge to our members. Our mission and our values remain unchanged.

In times of uncertainty, it is more important than ever to know who you are, what you stand for, and why you do what you do — at PAISBOA we serve Business Officers and their teams, and while COVID-19 may have changed some of how we serve our membership, you can depend on PAISBOA to watch over the flock.

Here are some things you should know:

We are keeping communication organized – PAISBOA is consolidating our communications to the membership into the Friday Flyer and the Members Update unless there is information that is critical that your decision-making process that you need before a Friday.

Next Friday (April 17) you should expect the PAISBOA Purchasing Consortium Quarterly. We are so grateful for our PAISBOA Preferred Vendors (PPVs) and our corporate sponsors, who have stepped up to support PAISBOA and our member schools and universities with preferred pricing, excellent service, and timely expert advice and information. We could not do what we do without their continued efforts.

The PAISBOA Monday Morning Coffee Break will be held at 10:00 am on Mondays from now on. Some of the sessions will feature guest contributors and others will be unscripted opportunities for business officers to network with each other and discuss issues and concerns with trusted colleagues. These programs will not be recorded so that members can speak freely. Slides and notes from guest contributors will be shared. Here are some tips on video conference safety and looking your best when videoconferencing!

PAISBOA Coronavirus Resources can be found HERE. You must be logged into our website in order to access these resources. As information is changing rapidly, please be mindful of the dates of the postings. None of the shared information, even from our lawyer partners, should be considered “legal advice” so be sure to consult your institution’s legal counsel as part of your decision-making process. New today: Deloitte’s COVID-19 Checklist for CFOs and Six Imperatives for CFOs.

PAISBOA e-lists are a great resource for members and provide access to information for all members. We have dedicated e-lists for Business Officers, HR, Technology, Sustainability, Plant and Operations, and Auxiliary Programs. If you and your team are not part of the e-list community, you are missing out on some great conversations. Contact Ron Hill ([email protected]) to make sure you have access to the information you need. Check out 4 Behaviors that Help Leaders Manage a Crisis.

PAISBOA is already starting to consider ways we can support those of you who are already starting to look beyond the immediate crisis and thinking about how education will be irrevocably changed. We are working with consultants on new financial modeling tools, and Ian Symmonds has written a thought-provoking article on 7 Things That Will Happen in Education as a Result of COVID-19 that you should read.

On behalf of Rachel Tilney, Sara Evans, and Ron Hill, who have been stalwarts during this crisis and have embraced this “new normal” like champs, we hope that you find a renewed optimism that we will come through this together -- one for all, all for one -- and that over the weekend, you joyfully celebrate Passover and Easter with family and friends in spite of the distance between us.

Take advantage of the power of the flock…
