PAISBOA Seeks Nominations for Board of Directors and the 2018 John Batley Award

In anticipation of our 2018 Annual Meeting, PAISBOA is now seeking nominations for the Board of Directors and the John Batley Award, our highest honor.

Considerations for Prospective Board Members

The PAISBOA Board of Directors is comprised of 18-20 Business Officers representative of the Association’s membership. The Board is led by an Executive Committee and Chairs of the Consortia. Each Consortium is governed by a committee comprised of officers and members-at-large. Board members are encouraged to serve on committees to lend their expertise and guidance to the activities of the association, and learn from them.

Board members serve a three-year term, and are eligible for re-election to a second three-year term. The commitment of time and energy is measured, and includes attendance at board meetings, committee meetings, annual consortia meetings, and support of professional development programming.

The PAISBOA membership is encouraged to participate in the process by self-nominating or recommending potential candidates to fill upcoming vacancies.

Candidates must be employed by a member institution in a leadership role. Nominees will be reviewed according to the following criteria:

  • Commitment to PAISBOA as demonstrated by participation
  • Leadership ability and experience in PAISBOA and/or other organizations
  • Experience consistent with the services provided by PAISBOA
  • Ability and willingness to serve with support from nominee’s institution

Members may nominate themselves or a professional colleague by completing the Board Nomination Form. Deadline is Friday, March 23.

The John Batley Award

Though he was too humble to say so himself, John Batley’s vision 50 years ago led to the founding of what has become PAISBOA. As the first chair of PAISBIG, John helped build a strong health insurance program into a magnet for innovation and entrepreneurship.

As Business Manager of Westtown School for 32 years, John was known not only for his devotion to his alma mater, but for his passion for helping other Business Managers do their job better. His reputation extended beyond the Friends school community to any business manager who sought his advice and counsel. He shared, with both humor and compassion, his extensive knowledge of the unique job that we all have as business officers at independent schools.

The ideal candidate should emulate John’s professional ethos and personal commitment to advancing the role and effectiveness of Business Officers at independent schools. Nominees for this prestigious award are recognized members who contribute to PAISBOA’s mission of working together for the greater good.

To nominate a member for the John Batley Award, please complete the John Batley Award Nomination Form. Deadline is Friday, March 23.
