Devon Preparatory School, a private, Catholic boys school grades 6-12, located in suburban Philadelphia, is looking for an experienced, full-time facilities professional to manage multiple functions in its buildings and grounds.

The Facility Supervisor is a hands-on professional who not only supervises a staff of three, but also performs duties when necessary to ensure that the school is clean and safe, and that its equipment and systems are well-maintained. This is a high-visibility, customer-oriented position that interacts extensively with faculty, staff, parents, and other members of the community. As such, the individual selected to fill this role must possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

Overview of Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Planning and assigning daily maintenance and custodial activities
  • Performing and coordinating preventive maintenance on building systems
  • Assisting with planning, budgeting, and coordinating of long-term projects/renovations
  • Identifying mechanical, structural, electrical, or other conditions in need of repair or upgrade
  • Representing the school at meetings with contractors, vendors and agencies
  • Maintaining HVAC, building alarm, and fire sprinkler systems and elevators
  • Monitor Cleaning staff and maintaining premises, ensuring all standards are met
  • Coordinating and overseeing outside contractors/vendors
  • Monitoring safety
  • Removing snow from building’s sidewalk, treating walkways
  • Ensuring compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations
  • Ordering supplies and equipment and reviewing and approving vendor invoices
  • Maintaining employee work schedules and coordinating related payroll
  • Developing and maintaining positive and productive working relationships
  • Encouraging, mentoring and motivating employees


  • College or trade school degree or equivalent
  • Minimum eight years building maintenance experience including four in a supervisory role
  • Knowledge and skills in the following:
    • carpentry
    • plumbing
    • electric
    • HVAC
    • boiler maintenance
    • fire alarm and sprinkler systems
  • Experience in a school setting is highly preferred (hospital, nursing home, museum, hotel also valuable)
  • Should have technical expertise with mechanical systems and equipment
  • Knowledge of building code requirements
  • Experience managing building renovations and system upgrades
  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge of payroll regulations
