A Step Up Academy is seeking a Head of School with demonstrated experience in special education and Autism Spectrum Disorder, and a proven track record of providing strong leadership. Established experience in managerial coaching, fiscal and administrative oversight, and legal/risk management is required.

The mission of A Step Up Academy is to provide the supportive educational environment that children moderately affected by autism spectrum disorder need to potentially re-enter a setting with typically developing peers.

Our School

A Step Up Academy (ASUA) is a private, non-profit, co-educational, non-sectarian school serving preschoolers through sixth graders on the autism spectrum. Founded in 2013 with just two students, ASUA now provides educational programming to nearly 40 students across two locations. Our focus is to serve the growing population of children with ASD that have significant developmental delays, speech and language difficulties, and moderate behaviors that are associated with the diagnosis. Using evidence-based practices and an integrative approach to individualization, ASUA targets cognitive, academic, social, sensory & motor development, as well as behaviors that interfere with learning.

A strong school-to-home relationship with parent involvement and training is the keystone to the success of our students. Our open-door policy for parents, siblings, and home teams encourages active participation in the academic and social success of each student. Regular progress meetings occur to ensure the team is working together and is keeping abreast of the students’ progress at school and at home.

The hallmark of our program is the commitment to providing peer-to-peer inclusion opportunities for all students. Our unique community partnerships allow our A Step at a Time inclusion program to thrive, giving students at all levels the social and academic opportunities to succeed in an included environment.
