PAISBOA HR Day to Feature Performance Management

Please join us at our Annual HR Day, Friday, December 8, from 10:00 am-3:00 pm, when Susan Guerette and Michael Galey of Fisher & Phillips will discuss Performance Management: Practical and Legal Solutions. The meeting will be held at the PAISBOA Offices in Radnor Township.

Every school has to deal with the difficult situation of terminating an employee at some point. Those can be challenging situations and, if not handled properly, can not only have serious legal implications, but can affect the goodwill in your school community. Susan and Michael will discuss how to engage in Performance Management so that faculty and administrators know when they need to improve and where they must focus their efforts. In addition, the workshop will give business managers guidance on how to review employees, how to communicate areas of improvement, and how to document each step in the process to both help the employee improve and protect the school if termination becomes necessary.

In this workshop, Susan and Michael will cover:

  • Sample guidelines to use in the evaluation process
  • Guidance on how to document the employee’s progress
  • How to terminate if necessary, what to say, the impact of contracts on at-will employment, how to manage the employee who may still need to be on campus, and how to control messaging within the school community
  • The legal issues to consider when terminating, including risk factors, protected categories, reference requests, hot areas for claims and the use of severance and non-disparagement agreements

If time permits, Susan and Michael will also address current challenges facing business officers in the areas of: how to manage social media and conduct beyond the school day; how to manage issues pertaining to sexual harassment and prevention; and issues relating to enrollment agreements.

Who Should Attend:

  • Business Managers
  • Heads of School
  • Human Resources staff members
  • Anyone else from your school leadership team who is involved in Personnel Management

Registration is FREE to all PAISBOA members. We look forward to seeing you!
